Judy Ann Rogers Mitchell was born on December 31, 1941, in Lamesa, Texas the fourth child of Lona and Willard Rogers. Judy spent her childhood in Lamesa where she attended school. Judy went to her heavenly home on July 7, 2023, in Abilene, Texas at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 6 days. Family and friends gathered for visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 Columbia – Stamford, TX). Funeral Services were at Bethel Christ Lutheran Church (1024 E. Vanderbilt St. Stamford, TX) with the Rev. Richard Strait officiating. Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery (US-180 east of Anson, TX) under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. Judy was united in marriage to Mr. James Mitchell on May 30, 1958, in Lamesa, Texas. This union was blessed with three children: Kelly, Kari and James Allen, Jr. James preceded Judy in death on November 3, 2001. Judy worked in retail in her earlier years and later at the Stamford ISD. She loved her family, her pets, and all things ELVIS. Judy had a green thumb that was evident by her yard and flowers. Judy and James were well known for their plush vegetable garden. Judy was lovingly known by her grand - children as “Nanny” or Granny”. Judy was a member of the Church of Christ, later becoming a member of Bethel Christ Lutheran Church in Stamford. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell, parents, Lona and Willard Rogers, brothers Ralph Rogers and Henry Rogers and one sister Morene Passmore. She is survived by her 3 children: daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Dean Rosenquist, daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Randy Lewis, son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Cathey Mitchell; four grandchildren: Trance Rosenquist and wife Candance, Travis Rosenquist, Sarah Lewis, Devon Mitchell and wife Amy; two great grandchildren, Karter and Emma Rosenquist; one brother, Derrell Rogers; one sister-in-law, Kay Underwood (Eddie); her fiancée, Gene Lyckman and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and numerous friends.
