Bobbie E. Connally, 94, of Stamford, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 in a Dallas Hospital. Visitation was held Sunday, August 20 from 1:00-2:00 in the sanctuary of the St. Johns Methodist Church. Funeral Service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 20 at the Church with Pastor Paul Wright officiating. Burial followed in the Spring Creek Cemetery near Avoca. Bobbie was born October 4, 1928 in Hillsboro, Texas to Johnny and Thelma Stoker McGrady. She married Don Connally July 23, 1948 in Weatherford, Texas. He passed away May 31, 1993. She graduated from Poly Tech High School in Fort Worth in 1945. She attended nursing training at St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School which is now known as John Peter Smith in Fort Worth receiving her Registered Nursing License. After graduating nursing school she did her first job training at Hendricks in Abilene working in the isolation part with Polio and the “Iron Lung” patients. She worked at various hospitals before becoming the Director of Nurses at Stamford Sanitarium, which later became the Stamford Memorial Hospital. During this time she also taught LVN school at Stamford. Upon retiring from the hospital she worked with Girling Home Health Care as the Head Nurse. She also did consulting for many Care Homes in this area. When she was 84 years young, she decided she wanted to be a stay-at-home nurse.
During her career she was also involved in the local Blue Birds and Campfire Girls where she went not only as a mom, a leader, but once again the “Camp Nurse” at Lueders Baptist Encampment. She worked with many Emmaus Groups and also served as a board member. Bobbie was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and worked as a part of the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Stamford Art Foundation which she dearly enjoyed, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion, and a member of Sons of Hermann Lodge. With her love of reading, Bobbie served on the Carnegie Library Board. She was a past recipient of the Stamford Woman of the Year. Bobbie was active with St. John’s Methodist Church. She loved sending cards to her friends and for those not able to leave their homes. Each morning she had a telephone tree where she would call Barbara and Ethel to check in. Bobbie loved to travel, read, and spend time with her friends dancing at Old Glory and the old Ponderosa Ballroom in Abilene. She was an avid fan of the Stamford Bull- dogs and the Texas Rangers. Most of all Bobbie loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. Her family was important to her. A very special time for her was going each year to her “Cousin by the Dozen” reunion in Fort Worth.
She is preceded in death by her parents Johnny and Thelma Stoker McGrady; son- in-law David W. Lefevre; grandson Jason W. Lefevre; and her precious dogs “Mickey” and “Chulo”. Left to cherish her memory are her children John H. Connally and wife Carol of Possum Kingdom, Pat Connally and wife Toni of O’Brien and Donna Connally Lefevre and Greg Hagerman from Avoca; grandchildren Allison St. John and Brandon of Argyle, Andrew Connally and Kacie of Midland, Traci Baumgardner-Flynn and Jerry of Seward, Alaska, Jessica Lefevre Bower of Abilene, and Lauten Lefevre Escobedo and Kelly of Stamford; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; a very special friend Tammy Odom; nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
