Frankie Turner Dickerson of University Place in Abilene, formerly of Stamford, passed away September 5, 2023, at the age of 93, under Hendrick Hospice Care. The celebration of life was Friday, September 8, at First Baptist Church in Stamford, with Visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.. Burial was in the Newman Cemetery in Fisher County. Frankie was born at 12 noon at Lawlis Flats in Fisher County, July 2, 1930, to Frank and Hattie Turner, the second of four children. She graduated Sylvester High School in 1947 as Valedictorian. She and Lee Dickerson were married July 2, 1947 at 10:00 a.m. at her family home. She proudly told everyone she was married two hours before she was born. They were married 66 years, living in Freeport and Sylvester before moving to Stamford where Lee worked for 35 ½ years for West Texas Utilities Company. They had two daughters, Fairis, born June 28, 1948, and Diane, born June 20, 1951. Mom worked at McDonalds Clothing and CR Anthony Department stores, sold life insurance, and managed Lee’s Dairy Cream (Super Dog) where it was her job to “straighten out” the rowdy teenagers.

They moved 10 times, each time remodeling the houses and “flipping” them before it was a popular term. They had homes at Lake Stamford and Hubbard Creek Lake as they enjoyed fishing, boating and making new friends. Dad was a volunteer fireman; Mom joined Firebells, the wives of the volunteer firemen. He was a member of the Lions Clubs; she a Lioness Club member. They both taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church and it was never a question as to where we would be on Sundays. They cherished their time at VIP, and blessed others by delivering food, socializing, and helping when there was a need. Dad had a heart for the Museum of the West Texas Frontier when it was first established. He volunteered his time, and raised money for the display cabinets. Mom was pleased to have his knife collection on display at the museum. She and residents from University Place recently toured the museum, which was such a fun trip that she planned to return.

Lee suddenly passed away August 10, 2013. It was a shock to all of us, but also revealed the blessing he had been to others. He gave unselfishly of his time and resources and in return, mom was sustained by the outpouring of love and support of friends and those he had helped. Her faith in God and eternal life in heaven gave her hope that she would see Lee, Jesus, and God’s glory. Due to health issues, Frankie moved to University Place February, 2020. She had many dear friends and enjoyed the social events. She loved inviting residents to see her yellow uranium glass collection and talking about Lee’s knife collection. We thank all you friends for listening and caring these past three years. Thanks also to her Sunday School class who kept in touch as well as others who sent her cards, all of which she kept. Frankie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hattie Turner, husband Lee, and two brothers Olan and Jack. Survivors include Fairis Smith of Garland, Diane and Marc Lovvorn of Stamford, grand- children Tonya and David Leguizamo, Nathan Smith, Marci and Kirk Acheson, and Mandi and Brad Whittlesey, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, and her sister Wannette Barron.
