Ruben Villanueva, also known as “Popo,” left this world on Saturday, September 23, 2023, having recently turned 74 years old. Born on August 8, 1949, to Refugio and Tomasa (Garza) Villanueva in Robstown, TX, Ruben enjoyed agriculture and farm life. He moved to Jones Country as a young teenager and remained a res- ident the rest of his life. Ruben and Alma Silvas were married on May 29, 1970, a union that was blessed with six sons. Ruben was a devoted and hardworking man in any role he assumed, from being a father, Popo, or an employee. He loved his children, but his greatest love came when the grandchildren were born. Ruben had a tranquil personality, always smiling and enjoying people. He was a man who never complained and was dependable beyond measure. He was seldom sick, but still showed up for work if he was. Ruben worked for several area farmers before changing careers to work in the auto repairs business for his brother and sister-in-law Julio and Sandra Villanueva. If Ruben had a nemesis in his life it would have to be the Dallas Cowboys. He did not have a favorite football team, but it was for sure NOT the Cowboys!
Ruben was preceded by his parents, Refugio and Tomasa Villanueva, 1 sister, Gloria Munoz, 5 brothers: Julio Villanueva, Jesus Villanueva, Joe Villanueva, Sr., Robert Villanueva and Frank Villanueva, and 1 grandson, Devin Villanueva.
