S usie Goodman, age 99 of Stamford, Texas passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. She was born in Dawson, Texas on September 10, 1924 to William Dallas and Lura Belle Holladay. She had nine brothers and sisters and they lived and worked hard on the farm growing up in Dawson. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1941. She moved to Dallas, TX in 1943 and went to work at Dallas National Bank. In 1943, she married a very handsome marine named C. T. Leggott. C.T. was her “first” date. Later, they moved to San Diego, CA and Susie worked for 1st National Bank of San Diego. She and C.T. were blessed in 1947 with their son, William “Willie” A. Leggott. C.T. retired from his job with the Naval Air Station and became a TV repairman. They moved to Hobbs, NM to be near family. He was a very good TV repairman there. After a brief move to Pocatello, ID, they moved back to San Diego. After 24 years of marriage, in May of 1967, C.T. passed and went to be with the Lord. Susie was introduced to Jay Goodman, a farmer in Stamford, TX through her brother-in-law and they married in 1971. He had a precious daughter, LaJuan and son-in-law, Garlyn. Susie and Jay lived in Stamford over 50 years. They were blessed with a grandson, Jay and great granddaughter, Emberlynn. Jay retired as a farmer and they spent 3-4 months of the year in Gunnison, CO. They had many friends and family that would join them there each summer. Jay liked to fish, and Susie played around and walked with her friends. After 38 years of marriage, Jay passed away in 2009. Susie would tell you that she had many wonderful days and lots of sad days, but God was there with her all the way and she’s so thankful to be part of God’s world.

Susie is survived by her brother, Don Holladay, TX, sisters-in-law, Gladys Leggott Horn and Faye Holladay, daughter and son-in-law, LaJuan and Garlyn Shelton, grandson, Jay Shelton, great granddaughter, Emberlynn Shelton, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, William and Lura Holladay, her son Willie Leggott, her brothers and sisters, Bill Holladay, Jo Holland, Iva Pierce, Wendall Holladay, Jim Holladay, John Holladay, Lucille Freeze and Mary Adams. Susie had a very giving and generous person in her life, Delores Delgado, that not only was Susie’s dearest friend, but who took wonderful care of Susie for many years right up to the end of Susie’s life. Living and learning all these years, Susie’s final prayer and wish is for her family and friends to believe in and love the Lord, have faith, know that God is in control of their lives, and that He’ll love you and protect you until the very end. Susie will see us all in heaven. A celebration of Susie’s life was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel.
