Jack Tabor 1933 – 2025. His life was well lived, and he was well loved! The Lord called him home in a peaceful manner on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the age of 91. He was a gentle, loving, caring and wonderful man who left a permanent mark etched on the hearts of his family and friends.
Jack was born and raised in Sagerton, Texas. The son of Billy and John Landiss (Summers) Tabor, Jacky Coy Tabor was welcomed into this world on October 20, 1933. He was educated in the Sagerton and Rule Schools graduating in 1951 and attended Texas Tech for one year. On April 7, 1952, Jack married his true love, Peggy Sue O’Neal, in Lubbock, Texas, a union that would be blessed with five children: Vanessa, Karen, James, William and Carol. Jack knew what it is like to be married to a fine and wonderful woman and to love her beyond bearing with the sure knowledge that she loved him and supported him in his career. The Tabor Family’s life embarked on a military career as they followed Jack in his career with the National Guard and Army.
Jack’s military career with the National Guard spanned from 1954 to 1993 serving as Chief Warrant Officer C4. He began as a tank commander and worked his way up to being an auditor. During Jack’s career his family bravely navigated the challenges and joys of military life, moving for the National Guard around Texas: Fort Worth, Irving, Farmers Branch and Austin. Later, he went on active duty for the Army and moved from Austin to Maryland then Oklahoma. Jack’s career, with the National Guard was 39 years of service and Active Duty for five years with the Army before he retired and returned to Sagerton, Texas November 30, 1993. Jack moved back to Sagerton to help care for his mother, enjoy country life, and made numerous friends. When Jack was fourteen, Ed (Ersel) Engleman gifted him a .22 caliber rifle. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman from then on. He mostly hunted and fished locally, but enjoyed special trips with his family and friends.  He was a member of the Sagerton Methodist Church and participated in the Sagerton Community Hee Haw each year. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandpa/granddad, and known as a kind, quiet, and mild-mannered gentleman by all who knew him.
Family and Legacy: Jack is survived by his children, daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Larry Griffin of Paint Creek, TX, daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Greg Carroll of Culloden WV; son, James Tabor of Austin, TX; daughter-in-law, Denise Tabor of Leander, TX; and his grandchildren, Annaleah Newman, Amberly Tabor, Miranda Tabor, Hunter Griffin, and Hawkeye Griffin; one sister, Judy Thompson of Talala, Ok;  one brother, Bill Tabor of Encinitas, CA; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sue Tabor, his parents, Billy and John Landiss (Summers) Tabor, 1 son, William Clark Tabor, 1 daughter, Jacqueline Carol Tabor, and a grandson, Aaron Newman. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. 
Celebration of Life: A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life was held at the Sagerton Methodist Church on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Stephanie Gilkey officiating. Services are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia, Stamford, TX.
