LaVerne Neinast Stanhope

LaVerne Stanhope, 99, of Stamford, passed in peace on December 4, 2020 at the home of her daughter in Duncan, OK.

LaVerne was born July 5th, 1921 at the home of her parents, Alma Scharff Neinast and Oscar G. Neinast of Sagerton, Texas. She was known to family and friends as “Putzie”. She was raised on the family farm 1 mile north of Sagerton and was a lifetime resident of the Sagerton-Stamford area. She graduated Sagerton High School as salutatorian. She married Bill Stanhope on November 7, 1945, after he served in the Army during WWII. They lived in Sagerton until they moved to Stamford in 1964.

She retired from Stamford Electric Co-op as Office Manager in 1990.

She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton where she enjoyed working on the monthly newsletter with Mel Swoyer and Clarence Stegemoeller, along with being a member of the bell choir. She was well known for her faith in God, wonderful attitude, great laugh, sweet disposition, appreciative nature and strong work ethic.

She is survived by her daughter Phyllis, husband Richard Faulkner of Oklahoma, grandson, Kevin Faulkner of San Francisco, CA, nephew, Col. Ted Dwaine Connally and wife Beth of San Antonio, TX niece Carol Hemphill of NY, nephew Larry Cronk and wife of NM.

She is preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Alma Neinast, 3 sisters, Lillian Neinast, Lorene Hemphill, Loretta Connally, and one brother Auda Vee Neinast.

There will be a small service for her at All Saints Episcopal Church chapel, Duncan, OK. Services pending at this time.

There will be a “Celebration of Life” service in Sagerton, Tx; when friends and family can safely gather to remember a life well lived.
