Dorothy Lundgren

Dorothy Lundgren, age 95, of
Stamford, Texas, passed away
peacefully in the comfort of her
home on the morning of March
7th, 2021. A celebration of life was
held on Tuesday, March 9th, 2021
at 11:00 am, under the direction of
Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home
at Bethel Lutheran Church in the
Ericksdahl Community with Pastor
Richard Strait presiding. Burial
immediately followed at Bethel
Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on September 14, 1925 to Lloyd
Hightower and Martha Basland, in Graham, Texas. She
married the love of her life, Leroy Lundgren, on January
21, 1945, at Bethel Lutheran Church in the Ericksdahl.
In the 95 years Dorothy lived her life she did many
things, and if you asked her about her favorites, they
would all include time spent with family. If asked for
advice, she would say, “Love your husband, love your
kids, and stay busy doing the things you love.” Dorothy
did just that. In her life, she served as a charter member
for the Stamford Ladies Auxiliary, better known as the
“Pink Ladies”, where she was an active member for
over 45 years. She was also an active member of several
organizations; Bethel Lutheran Church Willing Workers
and Tuesday Quilters, Stamford Garden Club, Texas
Cowboy Reunion Old Timers Association, and until
recently, she was attending her bi-weekly Bridge Club.
In cards, Dorothy played to win. When her grandkids
would join her for a hand she would smile that sweet
Grandma Dorothy smile and say, “I am going to whoop
you!” In her life it was just the same. It was a life full
of love, hope, faith, fun, a little bit of whoop, and most
importantly…family.
Dorothy was never one to show up empty-handed
and always made sure if you were a guest in her home,
you were well-nourished. She hosted countless holiday
dinners, family gatherings, and always ensured that
when she prepared dinner for Leroy and the men while
they farmed it would include a main dish, sides, and
a slice of pie. Dorothy was an exceptional sister, wife,
mother, grandma, and friend. She will be fiercely missed
by many, but her legacy will continue to live on in our
hearts and in our kitchen.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy;
two sisters, Jackie Stanfield, and Patsy Poucket; two
brothers, Hershel Hightower and Jerry Hightower; as
well as their parents. She is survived by her brother
Charles Hightower of Roswell, NM; son and daughter
in law David and Diane Lundgren of Hawley, TX; son
and daughter in law Mark and Tuvonna Lundgren
of Stamford, TX; daughter and son in law Christie &
Del Jones of Abilene, TX; her beloved grandchildren,
Greg Lundgren, Cydni Mortin, Heather Martin, John
Heathington, Ann Heathington, Brant Lundgren, Loren
Wright, Lakin Hise, and Chipper Watson, as well as 20
great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and
three of the most special friends, Fern Ballard, Nell
Rosenquist, and Maxie Kohout.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the
Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Connie
Shurley, 7433 FM 142, Stamford, Texas 79553.
