Elcie Martha Jones

Elcie Martha Jones, 101, of Stamford, formerly of San Antonio passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, in Aspermont,Tx. The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 27th at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Joel Rister and Rev. Dan Stewart officiating. A visitation will be at 10:30 before the funeral service at the church. Graveside service will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, December 1st in the Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. Martha was born on November 13, 1920, in Stacy, Texas to the late George W. and Sarah Elam Newman. She received her nursing degree from Shannon Hospital School of Nursing in San Angelo, Tx. Martha worked as Registered Nurse from 1944-1975. After receiving her degree in nursing, she married James D. Jones on September 3, 1944 in Temple, Texas. She and Jimmy were married for 48 years. He passed away November 2, 1992. She accepted Christ as her Savior in 1938. Martha loved the Lord and shared his love with everyone around her. Second to her faith was her love for her family. She was always willing to help and wanted them to know how much she loved them. She truly prioritized her life with God, Family and helping others through her vocation. Martha was an active church member wherever she lived. She enjoyed her Sunday School classes and the close friendships she developed there. She was currently a member of the First Baptist Church, Stamford. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and six brothers and two sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Nancy and Leldon Clifton of Stamford; grandson James Leldon and Elizabeth Clifton of Stamford; 3 great-granddaughters, Ellanie Clifton, Kennalea Clifton, and Mattielynn Clifton all of Stamford; son James Michael and Tracie Jones of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Rochelle Luttrell of Hobart, Indiana, Lisa Newbanks of San Antonio, and Michael Hughes of Hobart, Indiana; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother Calvin Ervin Newman of Lubbock and one sister-in-law Ann Newman of Levelland; numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all of the people at Stonewall Living Center for the care that was given to her.
